This dioecious, evergreen tree typically grows 3-30 metres tall, featuring a much-branched canopy. It is characterised by smooth, reddish-brown bark that peels in patches, and paripinnate leaves with leathery leaflets. Small white flowers are borne in paniculate cymes directly on older branches or the trunk.
