About

This dioecious, evergreen tree typically grows 3-30 metres tall, featuring a much-branched canopy. It is characterised by smooth, reddish-brown bark that peels in patches, and paripinnate leaves with leathery leaflets. Small white flowers are borne in paniculate cymes directly on older branches or the trunk.

Where it works in Kilifi

Thriving in coastal and riverine forest conditions at low elevations (10-100 metres), this tree is well-suited for a Kilifi-coast garden. It can serve as a striking specimen, provide significant shade, or be integrated into restoration projects in areas mimicking its natural habitat.
