This large shrub or small tree is endemic to the coastal forests of Kenya, typically found along riverbanks at elevations of 30-240 metres. It features distinctive bilobed leaves, measuring 3.5–12.5 cm long, with a cordate base and dense soft hairs on the underside. Showy panicles of flowers bear four yellow petals with bright orange bases, and a fifth petal adorned with a deep crimson patch at its base. Thinly woody pods reach 7–12 cm in length.
