About
Vepris robertsoniae is a small evergreen tree or shrub native to coastal Kenya, found in the deep shade of mixed evergreen forests, often associated with rivers and gullies, at low to mid-altitudes. It is characterised by unarmed stems and unifoliolate leaves, which possess conspicuous black oil gland dots on their undersurface. The stem epidermis appears pale brown, fading to dull white when dry.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ideal for ecological restoration or as an understorey specimen in a Kilifi-coast garden, thriving in deep shade. This species prefers conditions found in established, relatively undisturbed evergreen forests.
Growing notes
Expect moderate to slow growth, as this species is typically not a pioneer. It likely requires consistent moisture once established, reflecting its natural deep forest habitat.
