About
This deciduous shrub or small tree typically reaches 2.5–7.5 metres in height, featuring a rounded crown and smooth grey bark. Its trifoliolate leaves have leaflets that are glabrous (smooth) or only sparsely hairy on the midrib and margins, often elliptic to obovate. Small, white, four-petalled flowers with yellow centres develop into ellipsoid-globose, one-seeded fruits that are also glabrous. It is found in wooded grassland and deciduous bushland habitats.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to coastal Kenya, this variety thrives in wooded grassland and deciduous bushland at elevations around 30 metres. It is suitable for restoration projects in similar sunny, open coastal landscapes, or as a specimen plant in a Kilifi garden.
Growing notes
Propagation is possible from either seed or cuttings. For seeds, sow in spring in a warm, sunny spot, while cuttings should be taken in late spring or early summer and planted in well-drained soil.
