About
Vangueria pallidiflora is a glabrous shrub or small tree, typically growing 3–10 (occasionally up to 20) metres tall, characterised by smooth, light-coloured bark and branches with pale, peeling epidermis. Its leaves are narrowly elliptic to obovate-oblanceolate, drying pale beneath and dark above. The cream, greenish-white, or greenish-yellow flowers feature distinctive tail-like appendages on their lobes, developing into brown, asymmetrically ellipsoid to subglobose fruits containing one to three pyrenes.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to southeastern Kenya and Tanzania, this species thrives in evergreen forests and thickets within the seasonally dry tropical biome at elevations up to 900 metres. It is well-suited for Kilifi-coast gardens or restoration areas, where it can be grown as a specimen.
