About
Uvariodendron schmidtii is a tree species endemic to the Shimba Hills of coastal Kenya. It is distinguished by its small flowers with fused sepals that form a distinct ring and unique 'eragrostiform' leaf-buds. The species produces ovoid, densely pubescent monocarps with small seeds, approximately 4.5 mm long. It is currently assessed as Vulnerable by IUCN criteria.
Where it works in Kilifi
Given its endemic nature to the coastal forests of Shimba Hills, this tree is well-suited for restoration projects in similar coastal forest habitats in Kilifi. It can also be cultivated as a specimen tree or for shade in appropriate garden settings.
