It produces cream or yellow solitary flowers, followed by orange or red, round fruits, 8-12 mm long, which are edible. The plant is noted for flowering, setting seeds, and then dying.

Uvaria denhardtiana thrives in dry, sandy soils, including dunes and red sand, making it suitable for coastal bushland and arid garden areas in Kilifi. It can be utilised as an ornamental plant or for hedging.
