About
This small tree or shrub typically reaches 1.5-10 metres in height, featuring a grey or black bark that may have a white waxy bloom. It bears small, fragrant flowers that are initially cream or greenish-white, maturing to yellow, alongside elliptic to ovate leaves. The species is found in moist evergreen forests and along riverbanks in its native range, including the Kenyan coast, and is sometimes grown ornamentally.

Suitable for coastal Kilifi gardens, this species thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil. It can serve as an ornamental specimen or a screening shrub, particularly in areas mimicking its natural moist forest and riverine habitats.

Grow in well-draining soil and water regularly, particularly during dry spells, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Propagation can be done via seeds, though germination can be slow, or cuttings.
