Turnera thomasii is a perennial subshrub or small shrub, typically growing between 0.5 and 1.5 metres tall, with stems that become woody at the base. Its alternate leaves are elliptic to lanceolate, usually 2–10 cm long, featuring serrated margins and a slightly rough texture. The plant produces solitary, bright yellow flowers in the leaf axils, each with five petals and five sepals, which are short-lived and typically open in the morning.
Where it works in Kilifi
This shrub thrives in full sun to partial shade and requires well-drained soil. It is suitable for a Kilifi-coast garden or landscape as a specimen or in a mixed border, tolerating poor soils and drought once established.
