About
This herbaceous perennial plant typically grows prostrate to ascending, reaching up to 50 cm. It is characterised by opposite, ovate, hairy leaves with coarsely toothed margins and solitary, daisy-like flower heads that have yellow centres and white or pale yellow, three-toothed ray florets. Its fruits are achenes with a feathery pappus, enabling efficient wind dispersal.
Where it works in Kilifi
In a Kilifi-coast garden, it is best suited for sunny, open, or disturbed areas where its naturalised, spreading habit can be appreciated. It prefers well-draining loamy soil and can attract butterflies.
Growing notes
This species exhibits a rapid growth rate, spreading easily through creeping stems and abundant wind-dispersed seeds. Once established, it is drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional watering. Given its invasive potential in many tropical regions, careful placement and management are recommended.
