About
This scrambling shrub typically grows up to 4 metres long from prominent tuberous, porcelain-white roots. It features multi-branched, dark brown to black stems adorned with blue-green, spear-shaped leaves. The plant produces tubular white flowers with orange pollen, which mature into edible yellow-orange berry-like fruits.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to East African coastal bushland and thicket, this plant is well-suited for Kilifi gardens in full sun with well-drained soil. Its climbing habit makes it ideal for scrambling over structures, as a robust groundcover, or as a unique specimen in restoration areas.
