About
This climbing shrub or liane can reach up to 20 metres high, featuring paired curled tendrils. It has opposite, leathery leaves, typically ovate to elliptic and up to 5 cm long, which are shiny green above and paler beneath. Its flowers are white, creamy, or greenish, borne in axillary and terminal heads, yielding small, subglobose fruits that are soft and yellow when ripe.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to coastal Kenya, this scrambling shrub or liana thrives in coastal forest, woodland, and bush on sandy soils, suitable for full sun to partial shade. It can be planted as a climbing specimen on a support, allowed to scramble, or used in restoration projects in dry coastal areas.
Growing notes
Adapted to dry coastal conditions, this species is likely drought-tolerant once established. It is a tropical plant found at altitudes from 0-500m.
