About
This medium to large deciduous tree is distinguished by its attractive oval leaves, which often emerge with a reddish hue before maturing to a glossy dark green. When cut, the tree exudes a milky white latex, a characteristic feature of some species in its family.
Where it works in Kilifi
An excellent choice for a specimen or shade tree in larger gardens and landscapes along the Kilifi coast, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soils. Its robust nature also makes it suitable for restoration projects in native woodlands.
Growing notes
This tree exhibits a moderate to fast growth rate and, once established, is remarkably drought-tolerant, requiring minimal supplementary watering. Care should be taken as the milky sap can be an irritant upon skin contact.
