About

Senna timoriensis is typically a shrub, though it can grow into a small tree reaching up to 10 metres, and exceptionally up to 30 metres. It features compound leaves with 10-20 pairs of oblong leaflets and large, ear-shaped stipules. Showy yellow flowers are borne in dense axillary racemes, followed by flat, glabrous, dehiscent pods containing glossy, elliptic seeds.

Where it works in Kilifi

This species thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, making it suitable for open areas in a Kilifi-coast garden. It can serve as a specimen plant, contribute to light shade, or be incorporated into restoration projects, especially in pioneer settings.

Growing notes

It is a fast-growing plant that prefers warm, tropical conditions and is somewhat drought-tolerant once established. Water regularly but allow the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot; it is sensitive to waterlogging. Pruning after flowering is beneficial for maintaining its shape and encouraging new growth.
