About
This perennial succulent originates from East Africa, forming rosettes of thick, flattened, sword-shaped leaves up to 70 cm long. The leaves are typically grey-green to whitish-brown, mottled with lighter green or silvery patterns, and feature undulating reddish-brown margins. It produces scented greenish-white flowers on a conical inflorescence during summer.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ideal for sunny positions or bright, indirect light, this plant thrives in well-draining soil. Its architectural form makes it an excellent specimen plant, a drought-tolerant groundcover, or suitable for container planting in Kilifi-coast gardens.
Growing notes
A slow-growing and exceptionally drought-tolerant species, requiring minimal watering once established; allow the soil to dry completely between applications to prevent root rot. It is low-maintenance and should be protected from frost. Feed sparingly with diluted fertiliser during the growing season.
