About
Sansevieria francisii is a distinctive herbaceous perennial succulent, growing up to 60 cm tall, known for its unique spiral arrangement of five stiff, elongate, dark green leaves per compact row. These blade-shaped leaves are up to 15 cm long with a pointed tip, often featuring grey-green cross banding and a shallow channel on their inner surface. It spreads by sending out stolons, leading to its characteristic "walking" growth habit.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to Kenya, this drought-tolerant species thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil, making it ideal for rock gardens or as a specimen plant in a Kilifi-coast garden. It spreads horizontally via stolons, so allow ample space or grow in containers to manage its spread.
Growing notes
This easy-care plant grows at a moderate to fast rate, producing numerous stolons, and requires minimal watering once established, preferring the soil to dry completely between irrigations. It is hardy in warm climates but should be protected from frost. Note that it is mildly toxic to pets if ingested.
