About

This vigorous liana is celebrated for its highly prized, sweet and tangy orange-yellow fruits, which ripen from green. It also produces clusters of fragrant, jasmine-like white flowers, often tinged with pink, that are attractive to pollinators.

Where it works in Kilifi

Ideal for pergolas, fences, or arbours on the Kilifi coast, providing both ornamental value and delicious fruit. It thrives in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil, making it excellent for food gardens or naturalised areas requiring vertical greenery.

Growing notes

A fast-growing liana, it requires strong support and regular pruning to manage its spread. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional watering during prolonged dry spells for optimal fruiting.
