About
This scrambling shrub or liane can reach 1 to 9 metres in height, featuring greyish, flaking bark that reveals a reddish-brown layer underneath. Its opposite leaves are elliptic to ovate, glossy dark green on top, and may be sparsely to densely hairy beneath. White or cream flowers, often sweetly scented, appear in almost round terminal clusters, with yellow to red spherical fruits that are crowned by persistent calyx lobes. Indigenous to evergreen and moist montane forests, its roots and fruits are traditionally used medicinally.
