About
This evergreen shrub or small tree can reach up to 5 metres in height, featuring stout, pale green branches marked by dark scars from fallen stipules. Its leathery, elliptic leaves, typically 8-16 cm long, are glaucous and paler underneath, with margins that are serrated to spinoso-dentate. Small, pale to deep yellow flowers, approximately 10 mm in diameter, appear in terminal or axillary panicles. The plant produces a hard, brown, and warty, obtusely 3-lobed capsule, about 1-2 cm in diameter, which ripens to a purplish-brown. The roots are traditionally used as a snakebite antidote.
