About
This evergreen shrub or small tree typically grows up to 3 metres tall, often with a scandent habit and short perpendicular side branches. Its pale grey bark frequently peels in tissue-like flakes from younger stems. It features broadly elliptic to rounded, subcoriaceous leaves that are moderately shiny on the upper surface, and produces whitish, five-parted flowers in clusters, followed by black, almost semicircular fruits measuring 7–9 × 9–11 mm.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species is suitable for planting in the understorey of larger trees or along riverine thickets in coastal Kilifi. It can serve as a valuable restoration species in dry coastal sand forests, preferring areas with some moisture and partial shade.
