This species is a small understorey tree or shrub found in tropical forests, including the Shimba Hills of Kenya. Like other plants in its genus, it typically features opposite leaves, often with interpetiolar stipules. It produces small flowers, usually white to yellowish, arranged in clusters, which develop into fleshy, drupe-like fruits.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ideal for a Kilifi-coast garden, this plant thrives in partial to full shade, mimicking its natural understory habitat, and should be protected from intense direct sunlight. It requires damp, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. This species would suit a role as a specimen or part of a mixed planting in a shaded border.
