Psychotria faucicola belongs to a large genus of flowering plants predominantly found as shrubs or small trees in the understorey of tropical and subtropical forests. Members of this genus are characterised by opposite leaves and interpetiolar stipules. They produce small white to yellowish flowers, typically arranged in terminal or axillary inflorescences, followed by fleshy drupe fruits.
