About
This scrambling shrub or small tree typically reaches 1.2 to 4.5 metres in height. It features smooth, white bark on older stems, while younger stems are covered in dense, yellowish hairs that later become smooth. Its leaves are ovate to nearly round, with a velvety golden-yellow-brown underside and sparse yellowish hairs on top. Small, white or yellowish flowers form in flattened clusters, followed by globose, orange to black fruits nestled in shallow, cup-like structures.
Where it works in Kilifi
This adaptable species is native to East Africa and thrives in seasonally dry tropical biomes, coastal hills, and riverine woodlands. It is suitable for planting in full sun to partial shade in a Kilifi-coast garden or restoration area. Ensure well-drained, moist soil, avoiding waterlogging.

It prefers warm, humid conditions and requires regular watering, especially during its growing season, to maintain consistently moist soil.
