About
Premna gracillima is a straggly shrub, typically growing up to 2 metres tall. It produces maroon-black fruits when ripe, and its flowers, when in bud, are noted as possibly white. This species is found in coastal dry forests and dense coastal thickets on sandy soils, flowering from November to February.
Where it works in Kilifi
Given its natural habitat in coastal dry forests and thickets on sand, this straggly shrub is well-suited for restoration plantings or as an understory element in a Kilifi-coast garden. It likely thrives in full sun but may benefit from protection during the hottest midday hours, especially when young, and requires warm, humid conditions.
