About
This indigenous tree can reach heights of up to 40 metres, featuring smooth greyish or greyish-brown bark. Its young shoots and petioles are covered in a dense, rust-coloured fuzz, and its leaves are elliptic to obovate-elliptic. A distinctive feature is its specialized short, axillary shoots that bear flowers, setting it apart from other species in the region. It is valued for its timber, fuelwood, and charcoal production.

Ideal for larger gardens or landscapes on the Kilifi coast, this tree thrives in moist lowland conditions. It can serve as an excellent specimen tree or provide substantial shade, preferring sites with well-draining soil.
