About
Polysphaeria multiflora is a shrub or small tree, growing up to 10 metres tall, distinguished by its brown bark that peels in long strips. It bears elliptic to lanceolate, glabrous leaves and dense clusters of sweetly scented white flowers. The plant yields globose, dark fruits flecked with white. Its leaves are traditionally used for sore muscles and wounds, and its fruit is edible.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species thrives in coastal and lowland areas, suitable for Kilifi-coast gardens. It can be planted in light shade within coastal woodland settings or as an understorey tree in sandy soils and coral rag. It also works well in coastal scrub or thickets.
Growing notes
Specific cultivation details are not widely known. However, its natural habitat in seasonally dry tropical biomes and coastal woodlands indicates it is well-adapted to warm, potentially seasonally dry, conditions once established.
