About
This much-branched shrub or small scrambling tree typically reaches 1-5 metres in height. It features small, alternate, oval-shaped leaves with a distinctive, intricate network of fine veins, particularly visible on the underside. Inconspicuous greenish-yellow or whitish flowers emit a potato-like scent, developing into small, juicy berries that ripen to a dark purple or black.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ideal for sunny to partially shaded areas in a Kilifi-coast garden, it thrives in deep, moist, well-drained soil, tolerating sandy conditions. It can serve as a dense hedge, a restoration plant for riverbanks, or an interesting specimen in a mixed border.
