About
This evergreen shrub typically grows between 0.4 and 4.5 metres tall. It features dull green leaves that are narrowly obovate to elliptic, often sessile or subsessile, with round or slightly elongated bacterial nodules scattered across their surfaces. Small, white, tubular flowers are produced in few-flowered, umbrella-like clusters on short side branches, usually blooming from October to February. The calyx lobes are short and persist in the fruit.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to Kenya and other parts of East Africa, this shrub is well-suited to the Kilifi coast, thriving in evergreen forests, thickets, and on rocky outcrops or flats with sandy soil. It is ideal for restoration plantings or as a robust garden shrub in a seasonally dry tropical landscape.
