About

This is a vigorous, tall-growing perennial grass that forms dense tufts, often reaching several metres in height. Renowned for its rapid growth and high biomass production, it is widely cultivated globally as a valuable fodder crop for livestock.

Where it works in Kilifi

Thriving in full sun and various well-drained soils, this grass is excellent for erosion control on slopes and banks, or for creating naturalised grassland areas. It can also serve as a productive feed source for domestic animals, making it suitable for larger agricultural landscapes.

Growing notes

It boasts a very fast growth rate and, once established, is remarkably drought-tolerant, requiring minimal supplementary watering. Extremely hardy and adaptable, care should be taken to manage its spread as it can become invasive in uncultivated areas.
