About
This species is a shrub or small tree that can grow up to 15 metres tall, often developing a rounded crown. It features dull, light green, ovate to elliptic leaves which are thinly textured and hairless. Small, creamy-white, yellow, or greenish flowers emerge in axillary clusters, developing into spherical, yellow-orange fruits that can reach up to 5 cm in diameter, each containing a large, woody stone.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to coastal Kenya, including the Shimba Hills, and found in hot, dry woodlands and forest understories, this species is suitable for a Kilifi-coast garden. It can be planted as an ornamental specimen, used for screening hedges, or for erosion control. It thrives in well-draining soil and tolerates a range of light conditions, from full sun to partial shade.
