About
Ocimum fischeri is an aromatic herb native to Eastern Kenya and northeastern Tanzania. It naturally occurs in Acacia-Commiphora scrublands, typically on rocky ground at elevations of 300–500 metres. Like other members of the genus, it is likely an aromatic plant.
Where it works in Kilifi
This herb is well-suited for a Kilifi-coast garden, thriving in full sun and well-drained, even rocky, soil. It would be appropriate for restoration projects or as a low-maintenance addition to a dry garden.
Growing notes
Ocimum fischeri requires warmth and good drainage, as waterlogged conditions can cause root rot. Once established, it can tolerate drier soils, but regular watering during prolonged dry spells would be beneficial. Propagation can be done via seeds.
