About
Ocimum filamentosum is typically an annual or shrubby perennial herb, growing up to 1 metre tall, often with a short rootstock. It features oppositely arranged leaves that are oblong to ovate-oblong, faintly serrulate, and dotted with oil glands. The pinkish-white flowers are borne in racemes and are distinguished by stamens that are prominently exserted, about twice the length of the corolla.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it suitable for open garden beds or xeriscaping in a Kilifi-coast garden. It can be utilised as an ornamental herb or for ecological restoration in sunny, sandy locations.
