About

This charming shrub or small tree typically grows up to 6 metres tall, featuring attractive glossy green leaves. It produces small, bright yellow flowers, often followed by distinctive shiny black fruits nestled in a persistent red calyx.

Where it works in Kilifi

An excellent choice for mixed borders or as an informal hedge, thriving in full sun to partial shade. It adapts well to various well-drained coastal soils and can also be used in restoration projects; allow 2-3 metres spacing if grown as a specimen.

Growing notes

This species exhibits a moderate growth rate and, once established, is quite drought-tolerant, though occasional watering during dry spells will promote better growth. It is generally hardy and low-maintenance in the coastal Kilifi climate.
