About
This shrub or small tree can reach up to 13 metres in height, featuring narrowly oval leaves that are 6-11 cm long and 2.5-4.5 cm wide, tapering at the tip and typically appearing on new growth. It produces clusters of 15-40 five-parted flowers, leading to edible, subglobose fruits about 1.6 cm long. The wood of this species is used for making poles, tool handles, and spoons.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to lowland forests of coastal Kenya, including the Kilifi region, this species is suitable for restoration projects in similar forest habitats. It thrives in tropical conditions at elevations between 100-550 metres above sea level.
