About
This climbing shrub or liana can reach up to 3 metres long, with young shoots starting hairy and turning dark purplish-brown. Its thin, oblong to elliptic-oblong leaves are 2–5 cm long, often pellucid-punctate. It produces solitary yellow flowers and narrowly ellipsoid, reddish-brown fruits that are constricted between their 1–3 seeds.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ideal for a Kilifi-coast garden in shaded, moist environments, such as the understory of larger trees or along trellises. It can serve as a vertical accent or a component in coastal thicket restoration, thriving in lowland forest conditions and sandy soils.
Growing notes
This species flowers in May and June, with fruits appearing in February, July, and December. It prefers moist conditions once established and is native to wet tropical biomes and coastal thickets.
