About
Mitriostigma greenwayi is an evergreen subshrub or shrub endemic to coastal Kenya and Tanzania, typically growing to 1–1.5 metres high. It is characterised by its compact, wide-spreading habit and smaller, elliptic leaves. This species naturally occurs in coastal scrub on sandy or coral soils.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species is ideal for coastal Kilifi gardens, thriving in partial to dappled shade, mimicking its native understory habitat. It performs best in well-drained, sandy or coral-rich soils, making it suitable for coastal scrub restoration or as an underplanting.
Growing notes
Growth rate for this species is likely slow, similar to other members of its genus. Once established, it requires moist but well-drained soil and is sensitive to waterlogged conditions. It is well-suited to warm, frost-free tropical environments.
