This large evergreen tree, reaching up to 20 metres, features dark grey, rough bark with grooves. Its leaves are shiny green, often notched at the tip, and it produces star-like cream flowers. The tree yields edible, orange to red, round fruits, approximately 2.5 cm in diameter, which contain several seeds.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ideal for coastal Kilifi gardens and restoration projects, thriving in dry coastal forests, bushland, and near sand dunes. It serves well as a specimen tree or for providing shade in exposed coastal landscapes.
Growing notes
This species is fairly fast-growing. Young trees benefit from some shade to develop a strong trunk.
