About
This medium-sized tree grows up to 30 metres tall, featuring young branches and leaf stalks covered in dense, rusty-brown hairs. Its oblong-elliptic to oblanceolate leaves have a tapering base. The tree produces creamy, trifid flowers in clusters, followed by yellowish, subglobose to ellipsoid berries, each containing a single pale brown seed.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to Kenya's seasonally dry tropical and humid forest biomes, this tree is ideal for reforestation or as a large specimen and shade tree in Kilifi-coast gardens. It thrives in sunny, well-drained, loamy soil, with ample space for its mature size.
Growing notes
Once established, this tree prefers regular watering to maintain evenly moist, but not waterlogged, soil. Its resilience in seasonally dry tropical areas suggests good drought tolerance.
