About
Memecylon verruculosum is a forest shrub or small understory tree found in tropical East Africa, including Kenya and Tanzania, extending to southern Africa and Madagascar. Its leaves are elliptic-ovate and distinctly acuminate. Like other members of the genus, it produces small, four-petalled flowers, often white or violet with blue or violet stamens, and fleshy, globose berries.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species is suitable for Kilifi-coast gardens, thriving in coastal forests and thickets along sandy to rocky seashores. It tolerates full sun to bright shade and can grow in saline soils, making it adaptable for diverse garden roles.
Growing notes
Generally, species in this genus are slow-growing. They are pollinated by bees through buzz pollination, and their fruits are dispersed by birds and mammals.
