About
Maerua grantii is a small, twiggy, much-branched shrub, typically growing up to 2.5 metres tall, sometimes flowering on shorter, almost herbaceous shoots after burning. Its leaves are often three-foliolate, narrowly lanceolate to linear, and dry to a dark green or blackish hue. The plant produces yellow flowers with yellow-green sepals and spherical, warty, yellow fruits about 17 mm in diameter.
Where it works in Kilifi
This resilient shrub is well-suited for coastal Kilifi gardens and restoration projects, thriving in full sun and well-drained soils typical of dry bushland. Its somewhat straggling nature makes it ideal for informal hedges or as a naturalistic specimen plant.
