About

This charming shrub features attractive glaucous (bluish-green) leaves and often multi-stemmed growth, producing delicate greenish-white flowers. Its distinctive beaded fruits mature into an orange-red hue, adding seasonal interest.

Where it works in Kilifi

Ideal for full sun to partial shade, this species thrives in well-drained, sandy soils common to the Kilifi coast. It works beautifully as a specimen shrub, an informal hedge, or as part of a restoration planting in dry bushland areas, spacing plants 1.5-2 metres apart.

Growing notes

A moderately fast grower, it is highly drought-tolerant once established, requiring minimal supplemental watering. Extremely hardy, it adapts well to coastal conditions and requires little pruning beyond shaping.
