About
Maerua glauca is a scrambling, very twiggy shrub that can grow up to 3 metres tall. Its grey twigs bear simple or one-foliolate, oblong-oval leaves typically 18–50 mm long and 8–14 mm wide. The species produces few-flowered terminal racemes with small white petals, and its young fruits are spheroid and warty.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, making it suitable for dry, arid areas typical of the Kilifi coast. Its scrambling habit suggests it could be used as a specimen shrub, for restoration in dry bushland, or as a twining feature in a garden.
