This deciduous tree typically grows 3–15 metres tall, occasionally reaching 22 metres, forming an open, spreading crown with flaky grey-brown bark. It is distinguished by its mature, imparipinnate leaves, which are hairy on both surfaces. Small yellowish-green flowers produce edible, oblong-ellipsoid, red to dark reddish-brown fruits measuring 8–12 mm long.

Native to southeastern Kenya, this variety thrives in Kilifi's coastal woodlands and dry forests. It prefers bright, direct sunlight and well-drained sandy or gravelly soils, making it suitable as a shade tree, specimen, or for ecological restoration.
