About

This robust shrub is recognised for its distinctive lobed leaves and clusters of small, yellowish-green flowers. It produces oil-rich seeds historically used for soap, traditional medicine, and more recently, biofuel.

Where it works in Kilifi

Thriving in full sun and well-drained soils, this adaptable shrub is excellent for creating a tough, drought-tolerant live fence or hedge along the Kilifi coast. It also serves well as a standalone specimen or for erosion control on degraded land.

Growing notes

It is a fast-growing, low-maintenance species, highly drought-tolerant once established and requiring minimal watering. Please note that the seeds are toxic if ingested, so plant with care in areas accessible to children or pets.
