This evergreen shrub or small tree, typically growing up to 15 metres tall, features dark green, shiny, leathery leaves. It produces clusters of strongly fragrant white to pale yellow flowers, followed by paired yellow to orange berries up to 3 cm long. All parts exude a milky latex.

Ideal for Kilifi-coast gardens as an understorey plant, thriving in shaded positions within dry coastal and evergreen forest settings. It prefers well-drained sandy or coral rag soils and tolerates salinity.
