About
This species is a shrub or small tree native to Southeast Kenya and East Tanzania, thriving in wet tropical biomes. Its leaves feature an interconnected net-like pattern of veins. The flowers are axillary, leading to fruits (monocarps) that are often red, stipitate, and contain a single seed. Traditionally, the roots and bark of this plant have been used in Kenya for treating hypertension, typhoid, and obesity.
Where it works in Kilifi
Given its native range in Southeast Kenya and preference for wet tropical biomes, this shrub or small tree is well-suited for coastal gardens. It can be planted as a specimen or incorporated into mixed indigenous plantings.
