About
This climbing or prostrate perennial herb features slender, velvet-hairy stems up to 3 metres long. Its alternate leaves are ovate to triangular with a heart-shaped base, which can be entire or 3-lobed. It produces bell-shaped flowers, pale yellow, cream, or white, each with a distinctive dark purple centre.
Where it works in Kilifi
Suitable for Kilifi-coast gardens, this vigorous creeper can be used as a groundcover or to adorn fences and trellises. It thrives in deep sandy loams with consistent moisture and tolerates dry seasons, making it suitable for the seasonally dry tropical biome.
Growing notes
A fast-growing plant, it can be propagated easily from seeds or cuttings. Once established, it requires consistently moist soil, but care should be taken to avoid overwatering, and high humidity is beneficial.
