About
This shrub or small tree grows up to 6 metres tall, featuring oblong to obovate-oblong leaves, 4–18 cm long, often notched at the tip with crenate-dentate margins. It produces white flowers, 10–16 mm long, in clusters opposite the leaves. The fruit is deeply 4-lobed and approximately 1.5 cm in diameter.
Where it works in Kilifi
A riverine species, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Its ability to form thickets makes it suitable for ecological restoration along watercourses or as a dense screen in a Kilifi-coast garden.
Growing notes
Generally a moderate to fast-growing plant, it requires regular watering to maintain moist soil, but demonstrates moderate drought tolerance once established. Avoid waterlogged conditions.
