About
This indigenous shrub is characterised by its ovate to broadly ovate or even subcircular leaves, measuring 2.1–5 cm long and 1.2–4.4 cm wide, with an obtuse to rounded apex and a rounded to slightly cordate base. It typically produces small, yellow flowers followed by small, berry-like drupes. Native to the Kenyan coast, this subspecies thrives in seasonally dry tropical biomes.
Where it works in Kilifi
This indigenous shrub is well-suited for Kilifi coastal gardens and landscapes, thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It is an excellent choice for restoration projects or as a specimen plant, given its natural occurrence in coastal Kenya.
Growing notes
Once established, this species exhibits moderate drought tolerance, though regular watering is beneficial, especially during dry spells. It prefers plenty of sunlight for optimal growth; mulching can aid in soil moisture retention.
