About

This resilient shrub is characterised by its small, yellow flowers, often followed by distinctive bi-lobed fruits that ripen to a dark red or purple. Its ovate leaves are often serrated and have a rough texture, adding interest to its compact form.

Where it works in Kilifi

Ideal for full sun exposure and tolerant of various well-drained soils, this shrub is excellent for coastal restoration projects, as a robust informal hedge, or as an accent plant in a dry garden. Allow approximately 1.5-2 metres for mature spread.

Growing notes

Expect a moderate growth rate, establishing well even in challenging coastal conditions. Once established, it is remarkably drought-tolerant, requiring minimal supplementary water. This species is generally pest-resistant and hardy.
